Why Dental Implants Are a Top Choice for Replacing Missing Teeth

It’s important to feel great about your teeth when you smile. Dental implants are the best option for repairing your smile and helping you feel great. They’re better than bridges, because implants don’t require you to treat adjacent teeth. AACD Accredited dentist, Dr. Palmieri, has a lot of experience with dental implants and can ensure that your implants are perfectly made to match the color of your existing teeth so they blend in. Everyone will think they’ve always been there.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are fabricated teeth that can fill in for your missing teeth. The implants are made from metal and porcelain, and appear like natural teeth. They don’t require any drilling in your other teeth to be installed, unlike bridges. Dental implants are embedded into your jaw, have a high success rate, and last for a long time.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

One of the biggest advantages of dental implants is that they help preserve bone, because they’re embedded in your jawbone, which stimulates bone growth. Unlike bridges or dentures, implants don’t affect your neighboring teeth, but they help those neighboring teeth from becoming misaligned over time.

Your implants act just like your natural teeth, and you won’t have any restrictions on what you can eat and drink. In fact, your implants might even be better than regular teeth, because they can’t get cavities! And, of course, one of the best things about dental implants is that they give you the ability to confidently smile, knowing that your teeth look amazing.

What does it take to get implants?

To get dental implants, you’ll schedule a series of appointments with Dr. Palmieri. During your first visit, he determines if you’re a candidate for dental implants. If so, the implantation process begins with local anesthesia to numb the gums around your missing tooth. He then installs a titanium post in your gum, placing it in the bone where your old tooth had been. Then you need to wait 2-3 months for the bone to grow over the post, a process known as osseointegration.

On a subsequent visit, once the bone is ready and the post is stable, Dr. Palmieri installs an abutment that the crown attaches to. He also takes an impression of your teeth to ensure that your bite is correct once your implant is installed. With proper care your dental implant can last for many years, even a lifetime.
